Deborah Young Boughton, age 69, of Georgetown, TX, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 16th, 2023.
Debby was born on December 3, 1953 to Mary Bartlett Young and Holland Alden Young, in Beaumont, Texas, where she grew up and graduated from Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School.
Debby moved to her favorite city, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and met the love of her life and future husband of 43 years, Stephen Boughton, through mutual friends. She worked as a Lamaze coach and delighted in assisting new mothers and babies. Debby and Steve raised two sons, Stephen Bartlett Boughton, and John Holland Boughton. Being a mother and a grandmother was her absolute joy in life.
The Houston area was home for several years when Steve was transferred for work. In 2017, after hurricane Harvey flooded their home in Katy, Debby and Steve moved to Sun City in Georgetown, where they have enjoyed dear friends and wonderful neighbors.
Debby was an avid reader and writer, with a quick and hilarious sense of humor. Reading at least one book per week, she took pride in her expansive and diverse library. Debby loved the theater and was a passionate fan of musicals, especially “Hamilton” and “Rent.” She enjoyed all genres of music, was a musician at heart, and loved to write lyrics while her siblings did the singing and playing. Debby was a lover of animals, and a great friend to many. An energized extrovert, Debby lit up every room and never met a stranger. She was masterful at building and maintaining relationships from afar, as evidenced by the many people she touched over the course of her life.
Debby is survived by her husband Steve Boughton, of Georgetown; son Bart Boughton and his wife Kathleen, of Austin; son John Boughton, of Georgetown; and beloved granddaughter, Julia Boughton, of Georgetown. Debby leaves behind her brother Holland Young, Jr. and his wife Helen, of Austin; and sister Elizabeth (Bitsy) Rice and her husband William, of Austin. Debby is also survived by her uncle, Col. James A. Bartlett and his wife Sally, of Kerrville. She will be missed by 10 nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Deboo beyond measure. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service celebrating Debby’s life will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 1314 E. University Avenue, Georgetown, TX, on Saturday, March 11, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Central Texas Food Bank, an organization dear to Debby’s heart.
