Donald Collier
Donald Collier, 87, of Georgetown, died peacefully on October 25, 2022, surrounded by family. He was born in Brady’s Bend, Pennsylvania and was the son of the late Les and Anne Collier.
He graduated from Chicora High School and became a machinist at Westinghouse Electric Company. He married Norine Hilliard on August 24, 1957. After obtaining a degree in engineering from Carnegie Institute of Technology, he began his career as an engineer. A job transfer to build the Westinghouse facility in Round Rock brought Don and Norine to Georgetown in 1975. Texas immediately became their home.
A lifelong Catholic and follower of Jesus Christ, Don was active in the life of St. Helen’s Catholic Church. He led the committee that built the present church on University Avenue and served on its pastoral and finance councils. He also actively volunteered for the Diocese of Austin and chaired its building committee. Don was instrumental in the construction of Eagle’s Wings Retreat Center in Burnet.
Following his retirement from Westinghouse, he became active in a number of community groups including Faith in Action, an organization that provides transportation to seniors.
Don enjoyed his family and had a deep love of nature, spending some of his favorite times simply looking out on the deer that grazed on his property.
Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle. He leaves behind son, Tom and his wife, Pat of Midland; son, Mike and his wife, Suzanne, of Houston; daughter, Patty of Austin; and son, Jim and his wife, Jennifer of New Braunfels. He is survived by his brother, Art Collier of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren — Nick Collier, Mike Collier, Susanna Stewart, Caitlin Foley, Michael Collier, Christopher Collier, MJ Collier, and Heyden Collier. He also leaves behind four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Norine Collier.
Visitation will be held at the Ramsey Funeral home in Georgetown at 6 p.m. on October 30, 2022, with a funeral vigil service starting at 6:30 p.m. There will be a funeral Mass at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Georgetown the following day, October 31, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. Arrangements are under the care of the Ramsey Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be pleased with donations to the Eagle’s Wings Retreat Center or Faith in Action.
