Joy Wooten - A Life of Devotion and Kindness
Elizabeth Joy Wooten, 87, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026, in Georgetown, Texas. Joy was born August 26, 1938, in Mayflower, Texas to the late Lewis and Gladys McGee. She was the youngest of three children, both brothers Leland and Thomas Troy McGee preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ray Wooten; daughters Candis Guidry (Susan Campion), Sandra Tucci (Michele); son Doug Wooten (Krista); and grandson Memphis.
Joy graduated from Luther Stark High School where she was active as a twirler and drum major with the Bengal Guards. She was with Firestone Synthetic Rubber and Chemical Plant working in accounting and in traffic management for 38 years. After retirement, Joy and Ray moved from Bridge City to Georgetown to be near their daughters. Her sister-in-law and sidekick in fun, Omie (Milledge) Bonham also moved to Georgetown to be near their children and to enjoy the beauty of central Texas.
Joy was a beautiful person, both inside and out. Her warmth and compassion touched everyone she met. She was the cornerstone of her family providing unconditional love and support. She cherished every moment spent with her beloved grandson, Memphis. Beyond her immediate family, Joy was the matriarch to nieces and nephews, always offering affection, guidance, and encouragement.
