Harold Kern Harris Jr.

Harold Kern Harris Jr. of Taylor went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, December 2, 2022. He was born on August 29, 1933, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Harold Scott Harris Sr. and Lydia Kern Harris. He grew up the youngest of three, with two older sisters.

After high school, he enlisted in the army and served during the Korean War. A couple of years later, he met “the most beautiful girl he’d ever seen,” the love of his life, Beverly McKinney. They married on August 9, 1958. He worked for U.S. Steel in Gary, Indiana as an electrician and transferred to Baytown in 1978. After a couple of years, he took an early retirement and went to school to learn heating and air conditioning. He worked for himself for a number of years before retiring to Georgetown in 1995 where he enjoyed building his shop, playing with his four-legged friends, riding his bike, gardening, watching westerns and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Emma Jean Carver and Beverly Milzarek; infant son, Michael Ray and infant daughters, Melanie Kay and Tamara Lynn. He is survived by Beverly, his wife of 64 years; his son, David Harris of Taylor; daughter, Cathy Wernli and husband, Kevin of Coupland and his granddaughter, Claire Wernli of Coupland.

The family would like to thank Halcyon Hospice for their wonderful support and his doctors at Baylor, Scott & White in Round Rock and Taylor for their many years of care. A memorial service will be held at Providence Funeral Home on Monday, December 12, 2022, at 2  p.m.
