Joyce Linda Fairweather

Joyce Linda Fairweather

Joyce Linda Fairweather

Joyce Linda Fairweather was born on November 16, 1938, the youngest child of George and Margaret Fairweather in Cleveland, Ohio. Joyce spent her formative years in Cleveland, graduating from Shaw High School in 1956. Her mother cared for the home and her father spent his career working for the legendary Fisher Body Ohio Company. She attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and received her degree in elementary education.

After several years of teaching in the Cleveland metropolitan area, Joyce met and married Roger Bristol on June 16, 1965. They soon welcomed three sons, Randall, Rodney and Raymond. Over their 60 year marriage Joyce and Roger moved 18 times and lived in six states. Though caring for her family was her primary role, Joyce often tutored elementary students and pursued post-graduate studies. As her sons grew up, she eventually returned to the classroom for several years. Joyce and Roger spent the majority of the last 20 years in the Georgetown Texas area in the Sun City community. They filled their days with activities such as bocci ball, cards and various and extensive community events. The couple traveled extensively during these years. Joyce often commented that one of her most memorable journeys was the tour they took across Australia and New Zealand. Always an avid walker Joyce regularly logged at least five miles each day - often more! Joyce and Roger returned to Oklahoma a year ago to the wonderful Sooner Station community in Norman to be closer to family as they aged.

Joyce passed peacefully on Sunday, August 10, 2025, due to unrecoverable conditions of a stroke suffered in late spring. She is survived by her husband and favorite companion of 60 years, Roger, sons Lt. Col. (USAF Ret) Randy and Holly Bristol of Norman, Oklahoma, Rod and Jennifer Bristol of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Ray and Kimberly Bristol of Portage, Michigan, six grandchildren Hadley Bristol, Sutton Bristol, Lauren Bristol, Ryan Bristol, Maxwell Bristol and Nicholas Bristol, sisters-in-law Mrs. Rachel Bristol Sculac and Mrs. Reta Bristol Stark. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Margaret Fairweather and brother, George Fairweather, Jr. Joyce’s remains will eventually be interned at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Hood, Texas.

The family would like to express their deep and sincere gratitude to the amazing staff at Grace Rehabilitation and Long Term Care facility in Norman. The Grace staff supported and cared for both Joyce and the family with an exceptional level of care. Though our interaction was brief, we also found great comfort and the highest level of care from the staff of Good Shepherd Hospice. The last few months would not have been nearly so bearable without the staff and residents of Sooner Station for who we have enormous appreciation and affection. They have been the epitome of “community” through these challenging few months for Joyce, Roger and the family.

In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations in Joyce’s memory be made to The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, Be The Match (National Marrow Donor Program), or the USO.
