Sarah “Sally” Pell

Sarah “Sally” Pell passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026.  She was 92 years old.   Sally is survived by two children, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was born and raised in New Jersey but moved south to attend Duke University and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. After teaching Middle School and High School English and serving as assistant Superintendent of schools in Kodiak, Alaska, she returned to Duke University to get her Doctorate in Education, where she graduated with honors while being a mother of two young children.  She then became one of the founding professors at Florida International University in Miami, Florida.  She had a distinguished tenure at FIU teaching undergraduate and graduate courses with an emphasis on school law.  Upon her retirement Sally moved to Georgetown, Texas to be nearer to her daughter and grandchildren.  She had a passion for advocacy for others and was a volunteer at a local women’s shelter and a case manager at Caring Place. Sally served as a School Board member for Georgetown ISD, where she used her voice to advocate for students and teachers.  Sally had a deep faith and loved to study and debate the Bible.  She will be remembered for her kindness, wit, intelligence, and for being a friend to all. She will be missed by her family and her many friends.  In her words:  “The real worth of life is its spiritual foundation and relationship with the Wholly Other. Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount is the only true social contract”
