Steven Howard Gillum
Steven Howard Gillum passed away on February 24, 2026, at Ascension Seton Williamson Hospital following a sudden illness.
A graduate of Texas Tech University, Steve proudly served as a United States Marine and attained the Marine Corps Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge. He devoted much of his professional life to public service, working as a parks planner for the State of Arkansas, the nation of Columbia through the Peace Corps, and the City of Lubbock, helping shape and steward community spaces for others.
After relocating to Austin, he met his friend, Chelsea (Chessea) Ann Morris, whose companionship brought meaning to his later years.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Gillum and Lavern “Summer” Sweatmon and is survived by his brother, Randy; niece, Katherine; and great-niece, Ava, and several cousins.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Seton Williamson Hospital and Aspen Hospice for their compassionate care, and to his kind friends and neighbors in the Mariposa at Riverbend apartment community, whose support and attentiveness are deeply appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve’s memory may be made to Faith in Action or Meals or Wheels.
