Off-duty Georgetown firefighter dies in motorcycle crash

An off-duty Georgetown firefighter was involved in a fatal crash while driving Friday morning, April 11, on Highway 29 west of Wolf Ranch Parkway. The firefighter, Kurt Lentz, was taken by ambulance to Ascension Seton Williamson Hospital, where he died shortly before 10 a.m.

Nonprofit Georgetown Free Bikes opens new space

After donating over a thousand bikes to the community, nonprofit Georgetown Free Bikes has moved out of its founder’s garage. They're now at the former Rabbit Hill School located at 2055 Farm to Market Road 1460.

Nonprofits look to expand fall Day of Service

Three Georgetown groups — The Georgetown Ministerial Alliance, The Georgetown Project and the Rotary Club — are getting the word out early about a big effort this September.

Top floor of downtown parking garage finished

Georgetown city staff and developers celebrated the “topping off” of the Austin Avenue parking garage on Tuesday, April 8, bringing the addition to the downtown skyline one step closer to completion. This, as Mayor Josh Schroeder emphasized, is Georgetown’s “first” downtown garage.

Georgetown Parkinson’s group sees new leadership, continued community service

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, and World Parkinson Day is April 11. Happy birthday to James Parkinson, the English surgeon whose 1817 work described what would later be named Parkinson’s disease. The Parkinson color and symbol is the red tulip named for James Parkinson.

Nonprofit Good Neighbors GTX aims to expand its reach

Good Neighbors GTX started in fall 2023 when resident Susan Cox gathered a group of women from her ministry who were interested in helping out young women and children in the community.
